Holy Week Services

As Baptists we love to focus on the Resurrection. Of course without it the Cross would be meaningless. The Holy Week is a time for us to reflect on sufferings of Christ and thereby better understand His resurrection. Possibly you will feel the pain of nails driven into His hands as we carry the cross through the streets of Valdese on Good Friday. Or on Maundy Thursday as we gather for the Lord's Supper and we sing "Were You There" it will make you consider your sins that contributed to his death. But then there comes the joy of Easter morning. It is wonderful to know that we worship the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.

During this service we will experience only a portion of Christ's pain and suffering the day of His crucifixion. One of the most important features of the service is the gradual extinguishing of candles until only a single candle, considered a symbol of our Lord, remains. The choir will sing "The Shadow of Betrayal," and "The Shadow of Sacrifice."
Thursday, April 17 - MAUNDY THURSDAY
7:00 p.m. Lord's Supper - The special music sung by the choir will be "The Shadow of Loneliness," and "The Shadow of Suffering."
Friday, April 18 - THE WAY OF THE CROSS
5:00 p.m. - (Meet at Community Center in downtown Valdese) This service is based on the Stations of the Cross - a devotion that was developed in the Middle Ages by the Franciscans as a way of allowing people who could not travel to the Holy Land t walk where Christ walked on the day of his passion. Nine of the fourteen stations are taken directly from scripture - the other five come out of the earliest tradition of the church. Following the walk there will be a brief time of prayer, song, and fellowship in the sanctuary. The choir will sing "The Shadow of the Cross," and "The Shadow of Death."
