IT'S ON MY HEART!

Pastor Bill isn't petrified!
“Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear” I John 4: 18

Pictured above I am holding a snake in my hands. I am 53 years of age, and have always been petrified by these creatures. I do believe that all things made by God are beautiful and there is a purpose for them, however, I have always had my reservations about snakes.

Anyway, in the past if I came close to a snake I would immediately break out in cold sweat, my pulse rate would double, and I would run. However, as we approached our VBS which was set in the climate of the Amazon Rain Forest, I couldn't help but think of snakes. Last Sat. I and other adults and youth canvassed over 100 homes in Valdese inviting the children to come to our VBS. I was joined by Morrissa Walker, Jaminson Walker, and Megan Whitson. I had a delightful time working with these fine youth in advertising our VBS in the community. We worked together for several hours, as did other teams of adults, youth, and children. When it was over I began to pray in my heart unto the Lord that we would have 100 children this year in our VBS.

On the Lord's Day, I felt impressed to speak about the necessity of the church to love children. I spoke about the horrors of what are happening to our children in the United States, and that even in North Carolina we have 7,300 missing children, age 17 and under! Also, Burke County is ranked number 1 in the state of North Carolina by percentage of reported cases of abuse and neglect of children. I truly feel the church must step up its efforts in reaching children for Christ in our community.

As I was preaching the Lord laid on my heart to say: “If you can get 100 children here for VBS this week I will hold a snake.” Needless to say I was very disappointed in that we did not get 100, but I am so thankful for those who did come, and for the hard work on behalf of our VBS workers. As a result, I began to make my plans early in the week. A deacon had offered during the service to find me a snake. I preferred my plan which was to contact a family in my church that has several pet snakes. On Wednesday, with the aide of Grant, I held this Pit Python, mainly as a demonstration of my love for them. It was amazing as I held the snake, I did not break out in a cold sweat or want to run. The scripture is true, “Perfect Love Casteth Out Fear.”

Every day we have opportunity to demonstrate our love to those we treasure and value. Saint James makes it clear, “Let us not love in word neither in tongue but in deed and in truth.” It is amazing how fear can be cast aside, when we let the love of God reign supreme in our hearts.

Look forward to seeing you on the Lord's Day. I am thankful to the Lord for His many blessings He has bestowed upon us.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Bill
