It's On My Heart! By Rev. Bill Abrams, Pastor

It’s On My Heart! -- Rev. Bill Abrams

"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18: 20

Year 2003 - A Reminder That We Need Each Other and We Need God.

In the Bible numbers are often used in a symbolic manner. For example the number "two" is indicative of humanity and human strength. Two men are stronger than one. Therefore, Jesus sent His disciples out "two by two." The number "three" is a sacred number. For example the presence of God is seen in three persons (Trinity) at our Lord's baptism: God the Father saying "this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased;" God the Son, Jesus of Nazareth being baptized; and God the Holy Spirit descending upon Jesus in the form of a dove. Our Lord taught his disciples, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am with them." In this year, 2003, the number "2" reminds us we need each other and number "3" reminds us we need God.

First of all we need each other. Serving the Lord was never intended to be done in private. None of His children are to live like the Lone Ranger but are to join hands together in love in serving the Lord. We are cautioned to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together for worship. Daily we need to pray for each other, forgive each other, love each other, and serve each other and the lost of world through the united spirit of the Lord. Jesus said: "A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another, as I have loved you, by this shall all men know that you are my disciples."

But not only do we need each other, but we must have the Lord. That is why this verse is so comforting: "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them." Of course the Lord is always with us as individual believers, because He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. However, His presence is also promised when we as believers gather together in His name.

Every Wednesday night, and every Sunday the doors of Cornerstone Baptist Church are open unto you. There you will find believers who will welcome you with a friendly smile and warm handshake. They will invite you to join them in Bible Study, Worship, Prayer Meeting, and will help you find a place for every member of your family. But the secret to what you see happening is not just the members gathering together, but the Lord in our midst. Make no mistake about it, we need each other, but when we gather what is most important it the presence of the Holy Spirit.

This past Sunday after Sunday School and before worship I was greeted by two young girls who gave their pastor Valentine cards. At Wednesday Night Prayer service a young child visiting our church handed me a butterfly she had made. In their presence I felt their love and the Love of the Lord. You too can find the love of others and the love of God at Cornerstone!

Every time you write the date, 2003, may the number "2" remind you we need each other, and the number "3" remind you we also need God!

Peace, Love, & Joy in Christ,
Pastor Bill
