As the sun has set on 2002, and as I look to the new year I am reminded of the Lord’s promise “I am making everything new.” (Revelation 21: 5)
We have a New Year, 2003.
I always find it difficult to write the correct date for several weeks into the new year. But the fact is whether I write it right or not it is absolutely a new year.
As Christians we all need new beginnings. Sometimes this can take place in our lives at the beginning of a new year with new year’s resolutions.
However, the point of the Christian faith is that we serve a God who desires for us to have a new beginning. If only we will give our sinful and broken heart to the Lord, He can make us new.
The redeeming blood of Jesus Christ can make you new. He can wash you and make you “white as snow.” He can “turn your heart of stone into a heart of flesh.” He’ll even “give you a new name, and write it down in the Lamb’s Book of Eternal Life.”
New Life in Christ is not just a pie in the sky, bye and bye. This New Life in Christ is a present reality. He who created a new heaven and a new earth, can certainly create a new you.
Sometime back there were those who spoke of reaching the world by the year 2000. Well, 2000, 2001, and 2002 have passed by and many in our world are hopelessly lost without Christ. I suppose the question we ought to ask ourselves, what will we do to reach the corner of the world where we are situated. What friend, relative, associate, or neighbor could you possibly reach with the gospel in 2003?
A young lady I met this week was wearing a beautiful cross. As I mentioned the cross she explained: “the emerald is a reminder of the month in which I was born, and the cross is a reminder of the date when I was born from above.” Through a simple piece of jewelry she expressed her faith. How does God want us in 2003 to express our faith and love for Him?
